New Committee Elected

At the recent Extraordinary Meeting of Swanley Twinning Association all talk of the winding up of the Association was put behind us as a new chairman and committee was elected with the avowed intention of carrying Twinning forward into the future.

Richard Chapman, former chairman and founder member of Swanley Twinning was appointed Chairman. Long term former committee members, Audrey Haynes, Grace Osborne, Chrissy Hudson, Roger Bryan and Peter & Janet Mitchell all agreed to rejoin or continue as committee members. David Marten was elected to the committee for the first time and Brima Abibu was elected secretary at the AGM. The committee was delighted that Councillor Tony Searles, son of our founding chairman the late Jack Searles, was appointed President and Swanley Town Council representative.

Members discussed the future of the Twinning Association in some detail and all agreed that much could be done to raise the profile of Twinning in and around Swanley. All those present expressed a strong desire to see Twinning continue as a means of cultivating and developing new and existing links with our friends in Verrieres-le-Buisson and encouraging particularly families and young people to enjoy the opportunities that twinning can offer.

Forthcoming events

10^th September 2011, Forum des Associations in Verrieres-le-Buisson

This is a showcase for all the Associations in Verrieres to show the town what they do.The committee would like some more help for this weekend so please get in touch if you would like to join us. It is quite a busy but good fun and friendly event.

8^th & 9^th October 2011 Joint Committee weekend in Cambridge.

Although primarily a committee meeting other members have joined in this weekend in the past so all are welcome to take part. Again get in touch if you are interested.
